Hi! Beats

Hi! Beats is a smart monitoring system, provides systematic design across devices to empower older adults with Atrial Fibrillations.

My Role | User Research, Prototyping, UI Design, User Testing, UX Design, Visual Design

Teammates | Individual projects

Timeline | June-Aug 2021 10 Weeks

Type | Project in the experience class

Tools | Figma, Photoshop, Miro, Mural

WHAT'S THE CONTEXT?

Hi! Beats is a project focus on experience design and a smart monitoring system. The target users are senior people with Atrial Fibrillations. Inconvenient sharing, low accuracy, and time-consuming monitoring process are important pains for these people.

Facing these problems, I present Hi! Beats, a smart monitoring system, provides systematic design across devices to empower older adults with Atrial Fibrillations.

THE CHALLENGE

DESIGN APPROACH

The overall process including 4 parts: research, ideation, design, test, and iteration

Group 263.png

DESIGN PROMPT

Let’s have a look, what is AFib? it is an irregular and often rapid heart rate that occurs when the two upper chambers of your heart experience chaotic electrical signals. The result is a fast and irregular heart rhythm. And two of my family members suffer AFibs occasionally and frequently.

RESEARCH

During the Secondary Research, I found that over 12 million people in the U.S. will have AFib in 2030, and AFib was mentioned on death certificates lots of times in the last few years, what’s more, AFib increased the risk of stroke 4 to 5 times. So the design for AFIbs benefits not only my family members but also more potential users.

PERSONA

Also, I start user research with 5 users Interviews and followed 2 users to observe their behaviors to know detailed tasks, problems, and motivations.

  • Albert Lee had AFibs for 2 years. He wants to monitor his heart’s health and AFibs by himself, and receive signals when he has or communicates with his doctor. It takes him a long time to rent a Holter every time he went to the hospital, and the data detected may not be exactly when he was having AFibs.

Group 4.png

The Journey is like he has to spend 60 mins to visit the hospital and rent a holter for testing in the next 24 hours, then he has to go back to the hospital and sent back the holter and get report analysis in another 60 mins.

EXPERIENCE WAIVE LINE

If we watch the Journey in a larger scope, for both Frequently and Occasionally Afibs has five stages, Discover, Diagnosis, Research, Procedure, and Aftercare. Obviously, there are two bottoms during the whole journey, Diagnosis, and aftercare, because it is difficult to monitor the heart by themselves, hard to share the report, waste a long time renting the machine, and a long detection time but low accuracy.

MAIN TAKEAWAYS

Inconvenient sharing, low accuracy, and time-consuming monitoring process are key pains

OPPORTUNITY

How Might We...
Enable older adults with Atrial Fibrillation to monitoring heart conditions and easily share with the network?

SOLUTION

I build a system that including a heart monitor system, community care network, and self care system.

SYSTEMATIC DESIGN ACROSS DEVICES

The user provides body data to iwatch, which can be transmitted to the mobile phone and the cloud for analysis, and iwatch provides early warning signals to the user. At the same time, through the use of smart devices, users can share reports and warning signals with doctors or family members with one click

QUICK DESIGN & PROTOTYPE

With the ideation of the system, I created some key screens and started the first round of user test

FEEDBACK FROM POTENTIAL USERS

The feedback from the potential users helps me narrow down the scope.

MAIN USER TASKS

The main user tasks I keep iteration are call for help and make appointments, and check to monitor reports. Based on the main tasks, I created some task flow and wireframes

WIREFRAMES

The first user task is to call for help and make appointments which are mostly based on apple watch.

Apple Watch will monitor and provide early warning signals to the user, like attention when ur ECG is abnormal, warning when your ECG is emergency, and great when your ECG is positive, depending on the data collection.
