WHAT'S THE CONTEXT?
We are creating a food management tool to help them make smarter purchasing and consumption decisions based on their body needs to reduce food waste.
LET'S MEET KELLY!
Kelly is living solo and busy at work. She is looking for a healthier lifestyle and a better way to do food management for saving money because she is just in her early stage of work and she also looking for cooking ideas to clean out her fridge because she is always buying too much and can’t finish them all.
WHY SINGLE HOUSEHOLD?
As I have mentioned food wasted, why I just directly narrowed down the scope to a single household? Because during the research of the food waste in a whole food supply chain, I found out that:
HOW TO HELP KELLY?
First of all, I synthesize the whole journey and converging it into five stages: including planning, purchasing, consuming, redistributing, and discarding. I found that Kelly’s poor planning and overbuying always lead to food expired which indirectly leads to food waste and money waste, overpreparing and Food Spoilage are directly lead to food waste.
WHAT'S THE SOLUTION?

ITERATION PROCESS
RECORD
Digitize what you bought from stores.
TRACK
Get reminded for expiring food.
REDISTRIBUTE
Food locker to donate food or to get food from others.
STORAGE+REDISTRIBUTE
Aria is suspicious
I decided to focus on helping single households manage their food from the early stage.
PLAN
Compose a shopping list and get inspiration from recipes.
PURCHASE
Communal/group buy helps you split excess portions.
PURCHASE
Shopping alert that gives you the insight into your consuming behavior.
CONSUME
Stock management and smart recommendation.
Lee is very impatient
I decided to add “The Hook Model” in the whole touchpoint, makes the product more valuable to the user. As the user goes through these phases, he builds habits in the process.

LEARNING
The most important learning from this project is Prototype thinking.
I keep quick prototyping and testing, using low-fidelity products to help me collect authentic feedback from users, narrow and refresh design scope in the whole design process.
